Location: Direktörsvillan (Kirseberg, Lundavägen 51A, Malmö)
For this meeting we will start with digging a bit into some thinkers of degrowth. We will discuss two podcasts episodes. So if you plan to come, please listen to them in advance. In a few days we will also post some questions here as discussion starters. 👂🎧
Upstream podcast: Better Lives for All w/ Jason Hickel: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/better-lives-for-all-w-jason-hickel/id1082594532?i=1000666730069
Economics for rebels podcast: Addicted to Growth - Robert Costanza : https://podbay.fm/p/economics-for-rebels/e/1710154759
We will also make an ‘inventory’ of our working groups and get started with work, too!
The agenda for the meeting:
Discussion on podcast episodes (first hour)
Questions for Better lives for all with Jason Hickel:
- How does degrowth and lower consumption in the West not feel like a lack, but rather an enrichment of life? What would we miss, what would we gain?
- Example of shared child care; do you know of things like that? Which ones could be imagined?
- What are (grassroot) steps towards a world/system described in the podcast? What can WE do? What has the most impact?
Questions for Addicted to Growth with Robert Castanza:
Do you think is the ‘strategy’ of framing our society as “addicted to growth” and presenting a rehabilitation program for this addiction is a good strategy for change? Or rather - what is good about this strategy or not good about it?
Castanza has a particular opinion on the name Degrowth which refers to an ongoing discussion. What do you think about Castansas position, and the interviewers comments on his position, and what do you think about the “name” Degrowth yourself?
Come even if you havn´t listen to the podcasts or had time to engage with the questions as we also:
2. Share information and overview of our calendar for the spring.
Introduction to and kick-start some of the working groups (second hour)
